Here is out review of the “Jane Exo” car seat. The "Jane Exo" (group 1) car seat offers parents a huge leap in technology in relation to their children’s "in car safety" & comfort….......and ......its not just parents that are talking about Exo...........the media, road safety officers (and Jane's competitors) are talking about EXO too! The “Jane Exo” was a winner from the start and at the products launch Exo was awarded a "BACRA Award For Product Innovation". More recently The “Jane Exo” achieved the highest ever score in a leading Parent & Baby Magazine.....and crash tests made in Germany by their national motoring organization have proven that Exo is a truly safe seat. Exo boasts several new features both in relation to the ISOfix connections and how the seat "adjusts" to fit any child up to 18kg (40lb) in weight. As well as fitting by ISOfix the "Jane Exo" can also be secured using a conventional three point seat belt meaning it will fit virtually every car. Let’s start with the safety issues........ and the advantages the "Jane Exo" offers. It is a known fact that car seats secured by a seat belt invariably causes less "g" to the occupant (your child) than ISOfix car seats. ISOfix systems are easier to fit but are affixed to the cars chassis which of course takes the full brunt of a accident. Car seat belts absorb accident forces (partly because they stretch in a accident) and potentially lower g by about 25%. G forces in accidents can be huge (certainly over 50 g) and this compares for example to a Formula 1 racing driver who rarely "pulls" more than 5 g. The higher the g in an accident the more likelihood of severe injury to your child. The "Jane Exo" reduces g simply by the ISOfix bayonets being connected to a pneumatic shock absorption system which rather like seats belts "absorb" the accident forces. The "Jane Exo" also boasts a new electronic device which ensures (at a touch of a button) that both ISOfix brackets are connected safely. This is a great improvement for parents with a "inquisitive" older children who in the past have been known to release ISOfix brackets on their younger siblings car seat. Previously, parents had to physically check both brackets (an of course they rarely ever did) with "Jane Exo" this chore has been eradicated. When attached in the ISOfix mode Exo needs to be secured by a tether strap (so to create a third lock off point) or the addition of a foot prop. The "Jane Exo" also boasts a new "easy pull" harness system making the seat a pure joy to use and a harness which AUTOMATICALLY physically "grows" with your child both in height and in depth (!) as they get bigger. Features like these are unheard of and Exo (which of course has several world patents on the new features) leaves Jane well ahead of the residue car seat suppliers.
OUR OPINION: The “Jane Exo takes children’s safety to new levels. The lowering of “g” is a huge advance and is the biggest leap in technology since the child’s car seat was invented. The electronic method to check the "Jane Exo" is “locked in” is again a welcome feature and the way the harness adjusts is also totally unique. We also like the way the harness tighten from the side and the depth of the seats shell. In comparison to other car seats the Jane Exo is certainly a real contender. It offers comparable crash test results to both rear facing seats and those with impact shields and offers parents the peace of mind that little one is both strapped in securely and has all round crash test results as opposed to just head on (as is the case with rear facing seats) Negatives for Exo is price and the fact that it is quite heavy. 651/05/12/G/7
